Mukuba Hotel’s Transformation
Acting General Manager Mrs. Ireen Mukosiku opened the gala with a heartfelt speech, reminding guests that Mukuba’s story is one of partnerships and shared journeys.
She highlighted the hotel’s major refurbishment in 2022, with the support of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), giving new life into the infrastructure which has defined the Mukuba experience through comfort and elegance.
Today, Mukuba offers 52 modern en-suite rooms, serviced flats, a guest house, vibrant dining spaces, conference facilities, a gym, and a swimming pool. She emphasized:
“Beyond the buildings and amenities, the true strength of Mukuba lies in the people who support us.”
Words from the Guest of Honour
In his speech, delivered by Ms. Precious Njekwa, Hon. Elisha Matambo underscored the significance of the Mukuba Awards in Zambia’s hospitality and development journey. His speech touched on three powerful themes:
Development and National Vision
“Mukuba Hotel’s transformation is a shining example of how investment in infrastructure and service excellence contributes to national growth. By aligning with the Industrial Development Corporation, Mukuba has become part of Zambia’s broader vision for economic diversification and sustainable development.”
Culture and Heritage
“This hotel is more than a place of comfort; it is a custodian of our cultural identity. Through its tribute to Lamba heritage in spaces like Imbalasa Conference Hall and Chondwe Restaurant, Mukuba reminds us that progress must walk hand in hand with tradition.”
Partnerships and Community
“The Mukuba Awards celebrate the loyalty of clients, organizations, and community members who have stood by this institution. It is through these partnerships that Mukuba thrives, and it is through collaboration that we will continue to build a stronger Copperbelt and a stronger Zambia.”
His words resonated deeply, reinforcing the gala’s spirit of unity and shared progress.
Honoring Senior Chief Chiwala
A highlight of the evening was the special recognition of Senior Chief Chiwala, whose generosity and vision laid the foundation for Mukuba Hotel. By granting the land on which the hotel stands, he enabled growth, employment, and service to the Copperbelt community.
Mukuba has honored Lamba heritage through cultural tributes such as Imbalasa Conference Hall, Mutomboko Bar, and Chondwe Restaurant. In his award citation, it was noted:
“Your leadership demonstrates that true development is achieved when tradition and progress walk hand in hand.”
He was also given an award in recognition of his efforts in combating gender-based violence, child marriage, and preserving cultural heritage.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Mukosiku said:
“The Mukuba Awards will continue to honor the people who make this hotel more than a building; they make it a community, a home, and a place of shared memories and lasting impact.”
Furthermore, Mukuba Hotel recognized the women who are selling at the SLAVE TREE for their resilience, entrepreneurship, and dedication in preserving an important heritage site. This recognition came as Mukuba Hotel commemorated the revamping of the SLAVE TREE, which the hotel adopted as part of its community and heritage support initiatives.
The women conducting their businesses at the same site and playing a key role in its daily care were awarded a total of K6,000 as part of Mukuba Hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), reaffirming its commitment to empowering women and supporting livelihoods.
Sales and Marketing Manager Ms. Alice Chola Banda concluded that the Inaugural Mukuba Awards 2025 was a resounding success both operationally and strategically. The event strengthened Mukuba Hotel’s corporate image, built meaningful partnerships, and demonstrated strong potential for growth in future editions.
